I helped lead the cross-administration work team which developed the Hope Scholarship Tax Credit, enacted in 1996.

The Hope Tax Credit was designed to help make the first two years of college or vocational school more affordable for middle to low income families. Students may claim up to 100% of the first $1,000 of tuition and required fees and a 50% credit on the second $1,000, for a maximum possible tax credit of $1,500.
