That communication is no less a skill than the fields in scientific research.
I have a talent for communicating effectively. During my time at this job, the importance of communicating well (and being a sort of connector) finally 'clicked'. In years past, I looked at communicating well as simply being polite, keeping eye contact, avoiding mmms, and ahhhs, and the such. Now, however, I am seeing more subtleties than ever before - I'm noticing latency between speakers' phrases, the rhythms in conversation, and subtle cues that can relax tense situations.
What's more, I'm taking a more active role in using excellent communication to get more done, to convey more data, and how to make it stick. I read about the subject fairly frequently as well as how to present knowledge with skill, whether we're talking about seminar materials, small corporate class settings, or one-on-one training.
