During my tenure as Manager of Media and Government Relations for Adelphia Communications in New Jersey, I was charged with the daily imaging requirments attendant to a large customer service, technology based delivery system. The task's major requirement was to set forth within the area, in this case the nearly 23 individual muncipalities served by local franchise, the communication by various established means and methods, the intention of the organization to deliver superior discretionary electronic services, to include, but not limited to: analog cable television services (107) channels, digital cable television, (330), High speed Internet services, electronic paging, and long distance telephony in both residential and commercial settings, at reasonable prices and supported by 24/7 technical and customer service support. Attendant to that function was the use of those established means and methods of public communication. Those encompassed the following: The conceptualization, composition, and distribution of timely press information relative to the organization's daily operations. The distribution channels encompassed both electronic and print media, including local daily and weekly newspapers, local radio, and local cable television outlets. In addition to those means were those in the normal course of specific marketing communications, such as first class mail, bill stuffers, tearsheets, brochures, posters, and the production and distribution of marketing and information focused :30 commercials and Public Service Announcements. In addition was the use of the cable system's discretionary video channels, wherein information was conveyed by use of eletronically generated graphics and text. Consequent to those forms of communication, were those specifically generated for Government officials at the four levels that interaction was mandated. Since New Jersey is state regulated in telecommunications, in addition to Federal Communications Commission oversight, those individual members of Congress, the Senate and in concert with that members of the State Assembly, whose districts encompasssed the service territitory, the County Board of Freeholders, and the individual Mayor and Committee or Council members of the franchisor. Communication there ranged from formal franchise negotiation communications by telephone or writing, and those of a more informal nature by telephone or in person. In addtion to those sets of communications outreach there was the addtional layer of more generalized public outreach consequent to community outreach....
