What did you learn along the way at Birds & Fish Communications?

I would have to say that I am always learning more about the very great differences between the way western and eastern people's think and interrelate. It is in fact fascinating to me to see the differences, and often complete inversions in consciousness that can cause all kinds of misunderstandings and misinerpretations on both sides. I value the opportunity to learn this stuff so much, and I do very much admire the occidental way in many aspects. Corss cultural design practice is a great passion for me as a result. I also think it is an area that is - or should be in demand as a skillset.... read more

What's one of the projects you worked on at Birds & Fish Communications?

We just did a nice print job for a fashion design college here in Sydney called The Whitehouse School of Fashion. Having the book printed in Shanghai saved them heaps of money, even after shipping - we were pleased, and so were they. Printing quality in China can be patchy, and we appear to have ironed out all the bugs in regard to that, so we can offer a reliable service at extraordinarily cheap rates and still remain profitable. B&F Sydney will look to act as a borker for this kind of work more in 2007.... read more

What are people reading at Birds & Fish Communications?

Well at present my two favourite books are "How to be a graphic designer without losing your soul" by Adrian Shaughnessy and a cool book on female street and graffiti artists. It's called "Graffiti Woman" and it's by Nicholas Ganz - it's quite inspiring to me at present because I am gettign a little jaded by the computer focus my work has - it seems all consuming and I need to escape that a bit.... read more
