When a customer claimed they didn't rent a movie but, they did, according to their account. We debated for a while until I discovered that one of their children actually rented the title. The customer didn't realize taht they were authorized to rent.

Working at Blockbuster, in my opinion isn't really challenging. Once you really get the hang of company procedures, and policies it becomes second nature.

Working at Blockbuster is a lot of fun! It's a fast paced environment, that allows you to interact with people.

You have to have a personality and also have to be a people person! You have to be able to give honest opinions and also be able to make conversation. These qualities will take you a long way.

Especially helpful is a knowledge of, and a high interest in, the movie industry. Staying current on forthcoming movies, as well as a knowledge of older films, helps-- even movies from the black and white film era. Customers sometimes can call or enter the store looking for a movie. The problem is, they only know a little bit about the plot, and sometimes through sketchy recollections at that. Or they may only remember one of the actors of the film. They are hoping that you can help them find that movie based on the only information you can remember. An employee should also possess a willingness to help others....

One of the most challenging parts of working any retail job is to make sure that your customers are happy. At Blockbuster Video we had many unhappy customers. This was due to late fees, increased rental fees, movies not being in stock, and movies not working when they got them home. With each customer you had to try to figure out what is going to make them leave your store happy. With all the competition you could not afford to lose a customer....

I was responsible for all aspects of running the store. This included customer service, employee management, and store appearance. I was responsible for hiring, training, action plans, and firing of employees.
