What's the toughest problem you've had to solve at Dell Computers?

Dell announced restructuring intent during Q1. There were job cuts planned across several lines of business at various levels. The cuts needed to be made while minimizing negative impact to productivity and maintaining morale amongst employees while avoiding a mass exodus due to fears of job losses. After analyzing the headcount data at our location, it was discovered that due to positive attrition activities that had taken place over previous months, it was unneccesary to further reduce headcount at the associate levels. I set up a series of information sessions for each of my client groups to control misinformation coming from the rumor mill. I also developed career and developmental roadmaps which assisted employees in obtaining other opportunities within the business or help prepare them for external transition. A mass exodus was averted, morale remained high, and the facility was well on it's way to becoming a learning organization.... read more
