What advice would you give to a new employee at Department of Veterans Affairs?

My best advice that I had given to the employee that took over my position is maintain your files accurately and organized, as well as keep your boss informed of any activities that pertain to the job. It's such a fast-paced occupation that you will fall behind if you're not dedicated to it.

What was the main reason for accepting your job (location, opportunity, money) at Department of Veterans Affairs?

My main reasons that I accepted a promotion position within this federal government agency is the great health benefits as well as the various retirement plans that are provided. Obviously, opportunity to excel and receive recognition on the work I produce is also a factor, which I've already been commended for.... read more

How long did it take for you to land your job at Department of Veterans Affairs?

According to my supervisor, my past experience with handling cost accounts with precision, as well as maintaining close communication on any activities or changes towards our accounts. She also mentioned my desire and willingness to improve and lessen our workload.

How would you describe what you did at Department of Veterans Affairs?

Provides receptionist, referral, coordination and office management services as an Program Support Clerk for the Department of Radiation Oncology Service.
-Schedules appointments, and consultations via written method and computer, assuring that letters are sent for notification, utilizing
Microsoft Word and VISTA.
-Organizes scheduling book for appointments, prioritizing that which is most urgent.
-Maintains suspense records to assure compliance with due dates for final action.
-Receives all incoming calls for physicians, technicians and supervisors, directing calls to appropriate personnel.
-Receives messages when persons are unavailable to calls.(Writing message on memo pads for assurance)
-Maintains calendar for clinical staff, distributing updated calendar each day.
-Utilize Microsoft Access for input of patients weekly treatment appointments(time and date),formatting patient identification cards.
-Input data for new consultations and print information on three by five index cards,(by utilizing Microsoft Office Access)for filing and departmental information.
-Acts as a Timekeeper for employees when Secretary is away,(posting time cards for pay period).

Proficient in the use of digital fluoro equipment in addition to PACS monitors.
Trained hospital doctors, nurses and other colleagues on operations and uses of the above mentioned diagnostic equipment.
Acquired knowledge of physics, positioning, nursing skills and

How would you describe what you did at Department of Veterans Affairs?

My duties involved: answering phones (client/customer service, assisting veterans and their families with benefits and entitlements, filing,typing of memos concerning burial rights and contacting various schools and universities to verify newly discharged veterans in receiving education benefits.
