In my current role I manage the recruitment (employment) and franchise business advertising categories for The Wall Street Journal classified advertising department. My responsibilities include directing the sales activities of outside sales reps in three West Coast offices while handling an ad sales assigment of my own while being directly accountable for achieving and exceeding sales targets and producing revenue forecasts.... read more

How did you find your job at Dow Jones & Company?

It's basically a nice company to work for in that it's one of the few that offers a 35 hour work week and a generous vacation package.

But on the downside, if you're looking for an IT position, there are a few things you need to know. Dow Jones is currently outsourcing more and more of its IT
and accounting work overseas. This has resulted in several layoffs. There are some open positions but job security in IT and accounting is questionable at this time.

Dow Jones has a union for its non-management employees. This tends to be a real pain in the neck when the union and management are negotiating a contract and has resulted in salary freezes lasting as long as 2 years. Dow Jones is the only company I've come across whose IT department is part of a union.
