Experiences at Food Lion

Dealing with the number of people in your line.

Its hard for me to decide to leave Food Lion. Its the only job I have ever had. I have always been fearful of change. Stress is mounting at FL however. I have never loved my job and it looks like I never will. Unfortunatly I live in a small town and don't see many opportunities. I have all along figured that conditions would improve, but it doesn't look likely....

The hardest part of my job is trying to be as professional as possible at a company that doesn't seem to value me. Food Lion will print up a fancy brochure to tell you how important you are and then turn around and cut hours. While the customers would value an extra bagger Food Lion values an endless stream of useless programs and paperwork.
As a produce guy I seem to be the Front Ends only fall back when they don't have a bagger, bagger calls in sick, or the bagger is on a register. Every time I'm pulled away from my responsibility it tells me my job didn't matter to begin with.
As an introvert its hard for me to have to say things that don't sound natural, like "Welcome". Why can't I say good morning.
I wish Food Lion would be honest about the things they want.
I often believe they want me to quit. They probably don't even care if I die.
Then they can pay someone new minimum wage to do my job....

Most people would say that you have to have a positive attitude.
What they mean is that Food Lion can be very unfair and that the only way you can muddle through it is if your positive. If you really must work at Food Lion then let them think that you are willing to do anything they want.
You will find your self having to pretend that you agree with things that don't make sense....

I guess the secret is just being yourself and letting the staff at Food Lion know what kind of person they are getting in advance, and just be yourself

You have to have a positive attitude, and let people know you want the job, be attentitive to everything in interview and such.

Basically you have to have a good attitude. People are going to want you to be part of their company if you have a positive attitude. It also helps if you have good "people skills." Meaning you treat people how you want to be treated, And always remember the customer is always right!

During the interveiw be yourself and let them see the real you. Be honest and don't be scared to ask questions. You are not going to learn everything right away and they understand that.

The secret to getting hired is to show you are there for the customer, you enjoy your job at Food Lion, and you are willing to work on anything with anyone of your fellow associates. The customer comes first!
