Experiences at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center

The Heimfeld Research Lab at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center focuses on supplying hematapoietic stem cells to researchers nationwide. This enabled me to become very knowledgeable in various immunology procedures such as Flow Cytometry and Magnetic Cell Separation. We were one of, if not the highest throughput lab for cell separation in the Nation, and thus became experts at it.

As the position progressed, I was able to apply more of my programming skills to the lab to build tools to enable us to more efficiently server our purpose. These included Perl systems to aid in analysis and cataloging of flow cytometry specimens, databases to store the information to provide to other researchers, and machine interfaces to automatically download and parse information from blood analyzers....
