What's the secret to getting hired at General Dynamics Information Technology?

To get hired at GDIT, you must meet the requirements for the position you are applying for. Either a degree in that field, Military background or both. Former or retired military are preferred hires due to the experience of working in a professional and goal oriented environment. A security clearance is mandatory, except for certain administrative positions. I was hired at General Dynamics based on serving 25 years in the US Navy and had worldwide experience with the Navy Integrated Tactical Environmental System (NITES). I am an expert in exploiting the atmosphere and ocean environments for tactical advantage in war time scenarios. The NITES system is designed and operated by the Navy meteorologists to develop forecasts and prepare briefings. I currently work in the Modeling and Simulation Lab at the Navy Warfare Development Command at the Naval Station in Newport, RI. I am the subject matter expert for virtual natural environments, I ensure all sensors and targets used in war games are providing realistic ranges for detection based on the weather or ocean conditions. Another reason I was hired was the fact that I was originally Enlisted, then was selected as an Officer under the Limited Duty Officer Program (LDO). This program is designed to select the top performers from each job rating and promote them to Officer status based on job performance and leadership potential. The selection board is conducted once a year and they only select the top 5% or less of qualified applicants, my status as a retired Navy LDO was a major factor for being hired by General Dynamics. I acheived numerous qualifications in the Navy requiring sound judgment and leadership under stressful situations. My qualifications included Command duty Officer, Hurricane duty Officer, Officer in Charge, Division Officer, Department head and Leading Chief. I enjoy working here very much and the only reason I am considering other employment is my wife and I are both originally from Western NY and are considering moving back there since we have been away for 31 years since I joined the Navy. Our family and friends have been trying extra hard to talk us into returning since I retired from the Navy in 2002, the only thing stopping us is the fact that I have a great job here at GDIT in Rhode Island and it is tough to walk away from it.... read more
