What did you learn along the way at Hewlett Packard?

I learned a great deal while at HP about the corporate environment. It changes every minute and you must change with it or move out of the way.
I learned that being part of a team can be a great experience. I developed great tools to use in all I do.

What's the toughest problem you've had to solve at Hewlett Packard?

The toughest challenge faced while working at HP was to take a workload originally managed by 7 or more people and design a way without reducing the workload to effectively manage with two people.

How would you describe what you did at Hewlett Packard?

My general role at HP for the last ten years has been to manage and provide analysis of the Customer Satisfaction survey results in North America. This included many tasks, vendor management, budget management, various projects, workshops and ongoing reviews of the data and results.

The secreat to getting hired at Hewlstt Packard is to show that having oneself as an employee will add value to the company. Team work is key at HP, so the ability to participate in and/or lead a team is important. Even if revenue is good, there is always a way to expand the sale or add new distribution. My recruitment of Boise Casade and United Stationers led to multi-million dollar incremental reveune increases.

When I was promoted, I went from a peer one day and a manager the next. I had to quickly learn the difference between being a friend and being a leader and effective manager.

This was my first experience to manage a sales team that was located in both the Midwest and Eastern Regions. As these business segments were new, we had to develop reporting metrics from scratch.

What's the toughest problem you've had to solve at Hewlett Packard?

As the business grew, our sole distribution partner began to exceed their credit line. Working in conjunction with the HP Credit Dept. and principals at the distributor, we were able to increase the credit line without the added cost of a flooring program.
