SQL Server database administrator for a leading international law firm with a growing data infrastructure. Administered and maintained up to 12 production, 15 test and 2 disaster recovery SQL Servers (Standard, Enterprise and Developer versions on both 32- and 64-bit platforms) with databases ranging up to 100 GB in size running on Windows Server 2000 and Windows Server 2003 platforms. Use of administration tools including SQL Server Enterprise Manager (2000), SQL Server Management Studio (2005), SQL Server Profiler (2000 & 2005), SQL Server Query Analyzer (2000), Embarcadero Technologies ERStudio & DBArtisan, Red-Gate Software SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare, and Quest Software SQL Lightspeed.
Instituted security policies and procedures which significantly improved data security. Developed backup and restore policies and procedures to enable high-availability for point-in-time data restores. Implemented SQL LiteSpeed backup software on production servers to decrease size and duration of backups. Implemented and maintained Log Shipping between Seattle and Portland offices on payroll systems as part of disaster recovery preparation. Transitioned legacy databases from SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0 to SQL Server 2000 and have begun preparations for upgrades to SQL Server 2005. Installed and configured database servers; rolled out SQL Server service packs and hot fixes. Gathered technical specifications for server hardware.
Part of IS team working on data integration between Seattle and Pittsburgh offices after large merger of two law firms. Assisted software development team and application administration teams with data and database-related problems and planning. Instituted monthly meetings with all department personnel involved in the administration and development of applications with SQL Server backends to increase communication and database planning. Maintained library of database schemas and scripts using ErWin and ERStudio. Worked with application administrators on large-scale backend data updates. Designed, developed and maintained several smaller database projects in Microsoft Access 2003.
