How would you describe what you did at MITRE?

Enterprise architecture, systems engineering, and project management in support of multiple Department of Defense agencies and organizations. Customer-billed projects included:
* Reviewed DoDAF architecture models and artifacts; provided methodology and strategic design guidance in support of
Department of Defense (DoD) Business Transformation Agency (BTA) enterprise architecture development
* Assisted in development of DoD Business Enterprise Architecture (BEA) Net-Centric Strategy and Business Enterprise Services (BES) architecture approaches.
* Led team supporting BTA Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in development of IT Strategy and CONOPS, Information Assurance (IA)/Security plans, IT Service Management procedures, Continuity of Operations (COOP) plan and technology infrastructure analysis and design.
* Led several J2EE architecture redesign and managed contractor development team on DISA Information Superiority Situational Awareness (ISSA) pilot, moving existing Java based portal pilot from non-standard implementation on Novell eXtend to BEA WebLogic Server implementation, implementing web services based interfaces and using established software design patterns (Model-View-Controller pattern).

How did you find your job at MITRE?

Went to the RPI Career Fair last fall. I gave them my resume, then submitted online at www.mitre.org. I got one manager calling me because he got my resume from the recruiter, and another manager calling me because I posted to their online site.

My wife actually started at MITRE and thought I would really enjoy the environment. She was right! You collaborate with leaders across many fields doing work of national importance.

What are the lunches like at MITRE?

The Cafeteria menu from this past Monday included: Beef Tips with Portabello Mushrooms over Egg Noodles and Spinach, Apple Walnut Turkey Salad on MultiGrain with Fruit Salad, Andouille Sausage Sub with Creole Sauce & Cajun Fries, plus the daily deli, grill, pizza and salad bar fare.

What advice would you give to a new employee at MITRE?

Collaborate, collaborate, collaborate. There are very few silos here at MITRE, in fact they are strongly discouraged, except in cases where security issues apply. Even then, the culture facilitates wherever possible the exchange of best practices, best methodologies, etc. Any way that we can best support ALL of our government sponsors, we strive to do so. Being seen as a go-to-person is a great advantage here and is something that can greatly advance one's career/professional growth at MITRE.... read more

- Green trees and blue sky
- A parking garage (have to be honest:-)
- Pictures of places I've been (Tokyo, Seoul, London, Bavaria, San Diego)
- Posterboard displays of our past 5 Fortune 100 Best Company To Work For Awards
- My mini Redskins and Terps football helmets.
