Experiences at McCoys Lumber

There were lots of opportunities for advancement. The company puts more empthasis on practical expereince then education in promotion. I could have found myself in a position as a SIC or at the Corporate office in a number of years, very easily.

Most likely the funniest thing that happened there involved a misunderstanding of Spanish dialects over the phone. I was talking to a man with a heavy Spanish accent while I basically understand a Tex-Mex/San Antonio accent. Lots of things were lost in translation,.

The interview process at mcCoy's Lumber was extensive. I was asked by the manager questions about my experience with in the position as well as my experience with the products. After this, I was given a drug test before even being given the final word on being hired or not.

There are many good things about working at McCoys. I believe the best thing about working there was the interaction with the costumers on a daily basis,. The customers, whether regulars or walk-ins, made my day. The second best thing about working as a cashier there was the chance to interact with customers of a diverse background. I was able to use my Spanish in a real life setting instead of in a classroom setting. The third most important thing I learned at McCoys was learning how to use the cash register. The system is used throughout the business world. If I pursue a career in the business world, an understanding of this system will be beneficial....
