Neurodegenerative Conformational Disorders Laboratory
Worked with mice expressing Alzheimer's disease, Salmonella, and various prion diseases including Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Laboratory Skills acquired during this experience: Profused and sacrificed mice, removed various organs including brain, eyes, spleen and intestine, placed brains in paraformaldehyde, changed from paraformaldehyde to DMSO glycerol, sliced brains, mounted brain slices onto microscope slides, stained the slides with Cresyl Violet, Xylene, and Thiflavine, analyzed slices for plaques and neuron loss. Prepared Western Blots Incubated mice with an oral vaccine for amyloidoses. Preformed memory testing on mice....
