Nortel Networks?
EPiCON acquired by Nortel Networks September, 2000 Recruited by the EPiCON CEO to revitalize the start-up engineering team and ensure the reliability of the delivered product. Grew headcount by 10 to 35 and lead the team that built Application Service Provider (ASP) infrastructure software that deploys, installs, repairs, and removes Windows applications onto/from PCs across the Internet. $4M Budget. * Reinforced M&A efforts with a reliable product, transforming an OEM relationship with Nortel Networks into a $300M acquisition. * Based on a new managed service provider direction, planned and delivered the ASP product (new Web UI, consistent architecture, formal quality assurance and testing, and online documentation) that attracted Nortel and its competitors, while satisfying requirements of an installed base (Citrix OEM)....

How would you describe what you did at
Nortel Networks?
* Trouble-management of Magellan Passport family 6k, 7k, 15k, Shiva/Nortel 4400s for analog & digital voice, data (IP), ILS (InterLAN switching), Frame Relay/ATM, Fiber Optics (OC-192), PNNI backbone/solutions. Design LANE (circuit emulation) & encapsulation protocols over ATM, on private networks for customer implementations.
* Domestic travel to customer sites to over-see turn-ups, commissioning, pre-commissioning testing & troubleshooting for specification engineering topologies as well as fostering pre/post sales support roles accompanying Account Managers & Sales team in some cases as the subject matter expert (SME). Involved with new product solutions & test case scenarios in lab environments. * Configure Cisco & Bay Network routers with TCP/IP networking in conjunction with Passports. Install Nortel's Network Management Systems (NMS) as well as OMS in conjunction with Solaris & HP Openview on Sun sparc/ultra workstations running on UNIX servers.
* Gained foothold on one of many projects, such as FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Administration) account by accompanying account managers to technical sales meetings and giving presentations as the subject matter expert (SME) for disaster recovery demos & trials, which captured $3.1 million in revenue for the company....

*Determined equipment requirements, including power and vendor equipment, for complex telephone switching systems through direct interface with external customer, and issued job specifications to drive manufacturing to build product, with follow-up that resolved problems affecting sales, marketing, manufacturing, installation and the customer. *Technical Account Manager/Customer Service - Liaised between Nortel sales, marketing, customer service, quality, installation, and corporate management for a major telephone company and addressed issues that solved problems related to switching products. *Troubleshooting - Troubleshot digital switching equipment and provided solutions to system problems prior to placing in-service, both remotely and on-site, that kept projects on schedule *Issued engineering procedures to introduce new hardware and software products, including VoIP, into the engineering processes as key member of multi-functional team, and trained/mentored other engineers, that resulted in being considered subject matter expert by management. *Training Coordinator - Developed technical training curriculum on new hardware and software products introduced, and conducted training to peers and management that updated skills and provided uniform information on how to handle operational questions from users. *Customer Service/Building Relations - Provided technical support and solutions to problems that built positive relations and great customer service with inside staff and external customers....

Projects are detailed below: GSM-R planning and recommendations including Link budget calculation, engineering solution 900 and 1800 MHz with Hi-PA 60 W BTS S8003, Air- Repeater, Optical Repeater, Channel selective frequency translating repeater, tunnel coverage solution. GSM-R BSS parameter recommendations for achieving QOS requirements. Solution for high speed issues (Hand-Over time enhancement, presynchronised Hand-Over, cell reselection, power control, and paging parameters).Recommendations are for Voice and data. * Lead Software Designer for installing embedded Firmware and Operating System (VxWorks) on prototype boards using ARM SA-1100 processor. Received Nortel Networks Achievement Award. * Lead Software Designer for ASN.1 translator used to integrate VOIP based phone (and services) into next generation multi-protocol PBX. Both translator and VOIP phone software were integrated into PBX (Matra-France) and successfully demonstrated at Telecom 99 in Geneva. Received Nortel Networks Achievement Award. * Designed user friendly GUI based application to emulate GSM protocol messaging between two micro-processing boards on prototype mobile handset. Designed macro-scripting language to enable automation allowing design teams in Ottawa and Germany to work in parallel. System further used on the production line testing in France. * Wrote technology primer "Network Management: An Introduction to SNMP" and "VxWorks: The Basics" to help teams become familiar with new concepts....
