I oversee the investments of our firms clients and ensure that their portfolios are aligned with their asset allocation and their investment policy statement. I do that by identifying those that are deviated by a certain band (typically 5%) and generate the proper trades to bring their portfolio in line.

This reduces the risk in their portfolio by selling out of an asset class (such as Small Cap value) which has done very well recently and now the client holds a large position of it. Taking the gains from the sale to bring that asset class in line with their allocation we now purchase into the asset classes that are below their target, giving fuel to their rise back up which increases their overall return and reducing their overall risk....
