What are the opportunities for advancement at Rare Bird Enterprises?

None or unlimited. However much I can make of what I offer, that's the limit. Yet there's no one to catch and no ladder, one higher than the next guy. So, depends on what "advancement" means.

What are the three best things about working at Rare Bird Enterprises?

I know I'm doing some good because my clients don't have to pay me. Every gig is different, so I'm never bored. Time and freedom to learn, write and publish - including after years doing only PHB stuff, now I get to geek-out again, too.

What's one of the projects you worked on at Rare Bird Enterprises?

Writing a book: "Effecting Change in Technology Development Companies: Learning on Purpose"
Everybody seems to know what they want to change to, yet can't make it happen. This is about the getting there part. (Most of the time the "change to" is over-designed as well, but that is a different book.)

How did you find your job at Rare Bird Enterprises?

Recruited and relocated to Seattle during the dot-bomb, then took a layoff during "the worst recession in the region in 30 years." Meanwhile, I discovered I like living here. Since things were tight in tech at the time, I started saying "yes" when someone asked if I could help. That stuck.
