Experiences at Research Foundation of CUNY/BEGIN

In this program, I worked with 28 college freshman by mentoring them, planning events, and helping to make their entrance into college more comfortable. I kept steady contact through e-mails, visiting their classes, planning study groups and diversity events, and working together with other mentors as well as faculty to help improve retention and success....

I was hired for this after a faculty member saw my efforts to work with my classmates and help them achieve better grades in the course. They saw that I enjoyed helping others, even complete strangers, and had the patience to work with them.

There is no real secret in getting hired, but you have to be a person who understands the population that you are working with and for.

I explained the BEGIN Program to the client's we enrolled on a bi-weekly basis. I dealt with the client's that were assinged to me answering all questions from Public Assistance to Childcare. I referred client's to other agencies if client didn't meet programs qualifications. I conducted Sexual Harassment training for clients'. I tactfully dealt with incoming and outgoing calls to client's and vendors....
