What did you learn along the way at Rockwell Collins?

Some of the most brilliant and highly educated engineers have very little patience and do not always communicate very well. Knowing the right questions to ask saves time and aggravation on both sides. Be resourceful and creative (within ethical limits) in solving technical problems.

How long did it take for you to land your job at Rockwell Collins?

It was my first interview while still in college. I interviewed with GM and Pratt & Whitney also. GM just did not impress me enough. Pratt & Whitney gave me an informal offer right after I committed to Rockwell Collins which was both exciting and disappointing since I had a very strong background in jet engines and controls. On the bright side, both companies have a common interest in aviation which I do too. I still have a standing offer with Pratt & Whitney. What's the funniest thing that ever happened to you at Rockwell Collins?

The building I work in is next to Verizon's. On my second day, I inadvertently walked into the Verizon office building, past the security access point and almost went upstairs to what I thought was my work area until I asked the security officer if my badge had already been activated. With a smile she kindly pointed out that the Rockwell Collins building is across the street. I was surprised my badge worked in their building and it gave me a neat idea about a new security access point design.... read more
