Experiences at Saskatoon Health Region

They found me and I'm glad they did. It is a busy but rewarding place to work. At the end of the day I go home and think about the things I did and know that they benefited the patients and family members using the hospitals and long term care homes. I feel good about that!

I took a severely damaged department and set it right from a structural and work process perspective. I then worked the right people into the right jobs and established targets that were very much in the line of getting back to basics. While that was happening I engaged the union and began rebuilding tattered relationships with them and with the staff in the department. Today we are the leanest and most effective unit in the province and I suspect in Canada and we have a great labour relations climate. People like to come to work in my unit and they work happily and productively....

While you need the appropriate academic credentials you really need to be able to demonstrate the right attitude, work ethic and inter-personal skills. Saskatchewan is known for coming with creative and pragmatic approaches to solving problems and capitalizing on opportunities. To be hired and get promoted you need to be someone who gets things done and is 'nice' as you go about doing it! :-)...
