What's the secret to getting hired at Sylvan Learning Center?

Honestly, it's about being the right person at the moment the center is looking. Centers change what they're looking for depending on the current student enrollment, and there's no real way to predict that.

Beyond that, you're most likely to be hired if you're flexible and can really
demonstrate that you are comfortable working with a range of ages. If the center offers you the chance to observe an instructional hour, definitely take advantage of that. The director is trying to see how much you want to be there, and the teacher is watching to see if and how you interact with the kids.

Free hint as the teacher most often conducting a candidate observation for my own center: pick a student and start working with them. Also, ask questions. The teacher does actually expect you to ask about Sylvan's philosophy and about how the programs work.

What's the secret to getting hired at Sylvan Learning Center?

One must have a great deal of flexibility to work at Sylvan Learning Center as well as a love of teaching. Teachers are placed due to their strengths, and they must be able to cheerfully juggle up to three students at a time, often with different subject interests.

What are the most challenging aspects of your job at Sylvan Learning Center?

The most challenging aspect of my job, was with a corporate center there is not alot of support and when we were bought as a franchise I felt that the support was there, I had ran the center for the year and a half by my self, when there should have been 2 directors to share the responsibilities, but I did it with ease because I loved my job and I wanted to see the success and self esteem of the students.... read more
