What's the secret to getting hired at TARGET DISTRIBUTION CENTER?

Basically you have to be lucky, and make a good impression in the interview. Now, However they hire alot of seasonals during holidays, if you are lucky enough to get a seasonal position, and work hard and make an impression, then alot of times they hire you on full time when they get an opening. I'm sorry my answer has to be like this because of my experiences of so many jobs interview.

What's the toughest problem you've had to solve at TARGET DISTRIBUTION CENTER?

learning different peoples personalities. When I was at Target I had so many supervisors. Id say the 10 years i was there I had 30 or 40 different supervisors. Turnover ratio was big for them. But the most challenging thing would have to be learning how to take someone, are they serious, or just cutting up?... read more

What are the most challenging aspects of your job at TARGET DISTRIBUTION CENTER?

Sometimes you had to deal with those coworkers who, for what ever reason just dont want to work. They want to stand around and talk all the time. The challenging part was trying to figure out what motivates them, and getting them to put forth the effort that everyone else was. Sometimes it took alittle while, but eventually you learn what makes certain people tick and you get them to contribute.... read more

How would you describe what you did at TARGET DISTRIBUTION CENTER?

In receiving i brought freight in off trucks into warehouse. Seperated the freight as to what area of warehouse it was goinig (reserve or flow). Then staged it for warehousing to pickup and take to racks. In warehousing i would then take pallets and put them into a location, and when label drops would come in I would go and pick pallets or individual cartons for shipment, and take them to be staged for outbound. In outbound i would load trailors for delivery to stores. In Music and Movies, I would receive dvd's and cd's (high security items) into warehouse, allocating them a location, and picking them out of racks as needed. There were only a select few that were allowed to handle such items. Sometimes a store would need only pieces of a carton instead of the whole thing, well in that case I would go and pick only certain pieces of cartons and perpare them for shipment. This is called Breakpack.... read more

What's the funniest thing that ever happened to you at TARGET DISTRIBUTION CENTER?

Rather than funny things happening to me, I usually played jokes on others. Mostly on my supervisor. He was an incredible supervisor who understood the team that worked for him. So long as we were working hard and trying to reach the daily goal, they allowed us to blow off steam and take a few minutes to chat or relax. One day, I took day flags (large stickers for FIFO marking pallets) and drew handicapped signs on them. I then stuck them in front of all the chariot parking spaces (chariots being three wheeled standup motorized scooters). Perhaps you needed to be there, or perhaps you need to spend a full day in lanes, but it was a lot funnier than it sounded. It also earned me a little bit of notoriety, spreading to the other department supervisors who applauded my humor.... read more

What's the best team you worked with at TARGET DISTRIBUTION CENTER?

Our Target DC's outbound department was phenomenal for it's teamwork. Nobody in that DC works harder than outbound, which bonds outbound together. Teammates often help each other out without any prompting, be it breaking down lanes, depalitizing items, or just motivating each other to speed up. Everyone truly understands what it means to be on a team.... read more

What advice would you give to a new employee at TARGET DISTRIBUTION CENTER?

Try not to complain and push yourself to work hard. People will respect that and will be eager to help you if you get in a jam, because they'll know you won't make a habit of it.

What did you learn along the way at TARGET DISTRIBUTION CENTER?

I learned that no matter how difficult a task is, if you're willing to stick it out, keep working at it, and try to find something to enjoy about it, eventually the day will end, and you'll be stronger for not quitting.

What are the most challenging aspects of your job at TARGET DISTRIBUTION CENTER?

The Target DC was a physically exhausting job. For twelve hours, I would load up to 10 trailers simultaneously with any item a Target store carries. These varied from pallets of water, to individual bags of pet food, to large build your own shelves. By the end of the day, you would find yourself exhausted and sore.... read more
