What's unique about working at The White House?

You are truly "always on." There is no such thing as a weekend, holiday, etc. Even when you are away, you are always there. Very much like a startup.

What's one of the projects you worked on at The White House?

I helped lead the cross-administration work team which developed the Hope Scholarship Tax Credit, enacted in 1996.

The Hope Tax Credit was designed to help make the first two years of college or vocational school more affordable for middle to low income families. Students may claim up to 100%
of the first $1,000 of tuition and required fees and a 50% credit on the second $1,000, for a maximum possible tax credit of $1,500.

1. Free White House M&M's
2. Each employee gets to use the President's box at the Kennedy Center once. I went at least a dozen times. Go figure.
3. I met Bono once.
4. I had the great fortune of going to Davenport Iowa 7 times in 6 years.
5. There's a group of navy chefs who rotate into
the "white house mess hall" to cook for the president's top 300 staffers.... read more
