i was transfered from the Marlin seaplane squandron in 1967. The Vietnam war had caused tremendous shortages on the Helicopter squandrons, and as VP 40 Marlins were being transitioned to the P3 Orion, a lot of the Maintenance people were transfered. On 1968 The Space program run by NASA sent a test capsule, and we were assigned to the USS Okinawa to pick up that capsule. I Know I arrived at NAS Imperia Beach on the July 25. were I learned my son was born, as I arrived. On 1969 I was honorably discharged after having served 10 months in Vietnam, we also were sent on a show of force to the Corea Straits as the North Corea had shot down a US Navy reconecesence plane. My specialty was Airframes mechanic, and hydrolics. I was assingned to the corrosion Control crew, I became a qualified Corrosion Control Insoector, I led that Group as shoop Suppervisor....
