How would you describe what you did at
Unburdenus.org?
Founder and Executive Director of UnburdenUs.org. Unburdenus.org is a ground breaking web application and wiki designed to allow an individual a way to research the number of people globally who experience the same or similar side effects as to what they are experiencing. An individual will accomplish this by anonymously submitting data through a series of forms to our application. The user is then provided with the ability to generate a report from the information they provided comparing it against information provided by other users. This will allow for the tracking and identification of side effects that possibly effect specific user groups due to unique environmental or physical characteristics. By implementing a wiki, we allow patients/users to define a side effect in a way that makes sense to them. A lot of times when a patient tries to articulate to a doctor what they are experiencing as a result of a side effect, it is difficult if not impossible to do so. However, if they share it with another person who is experiencing the side effect it totally makes sense. Once the side effect has been submitted by the patient/user to the wiki it will be posted for review/comment by other patient/users who can then approve it for inclusion as a side effect. Tagging will also be implemented to associate side effects with more than one medication. The portal is being developed utilizing Ruby on Rails as well as various Web 2.0 technologies to ensure that the service we are providing is as user friendly as possible. Currently in charge of 3 developers and a technical lead who are completing the migrations and laying out the roadmap so we can move the project into beta by 1st week of February 2007. The project is going to be a free service to anyone who uses it and will most likely be governed on a model similar to Creative Commons Licensing....
