What's the toughest problem you've had to solve at United States Coast Guard?

I actually had more drama enter my life the moment I reported into my first unit then I had when I was in high school. I was also being judged by the friends that I had. What are the most challenging aspects of your job at United States Coast Guard?

I actually didn't get to the most challenging part of my job. I believe the most challenging part would have been going through the flight syllabus and being a qualified flight mech. I would have been part of the aircrew and would have gone on search and rescue cases and pulled people double my weight into the helicopter. That would have been the most difficult part of my job.... read more

How would you describe what you did at United States Coast Guard?

I started out scraping bouys, doing dishes, and painting the boat I was on. I went on to tech school where I became a helicopter mechanic. I worked on the engines, airframe, hydraulics, electrical and became a purchasing agent for the mechanics I worked with and for.

What's the secret to getting hired at United States Coast Guard?

Getting a good score on the ASVAB is key. There are a wide range of jobs available and great people to work with. It was an amazing opportunity.

?? Managed the training and operation of USCG Auxiliary Flotillas located in New York, New Jersey, Vermont and Connecticut.
?? Ensured operational air and waterborne facilities were properly inspected for annual operation.
?? Developed, apportioned and accounted for CCGD3Aux annual budget and
special operations contingencies, including the Statue of Liberty Centennial Celebration.
?? Supervised the Small Boat Crewmember Qualification and Certification Program.
?? Oversaw the annual member training and certification program.
?? Recommended Auxiliary training development cadre follow ACE guidelines in the preparation of ISD developed courses.

Maintaining an air guard for helicopters and airplanes. Keeping track of several air contacts at once. Listening to several radios and talking to public mariners about several different boating issues.
