I was fortunate and was hired right after I graduated since I was already working as a student lab aide. Keeping ones foot in the door, and networking, is always the best way to acquiring a full-time position with this type of organization.

Having graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and MCB in 2000, I pursued employment at the university to hone skills I had developed during student positions at the UofA. As a full-time staff employee, I was exposed to genetic engineering, radiation management and disposal, biohazard waste and management, cell culture, pharmaceutical opioid research, and general lab management responsibilities (procurement and lab equipment maintenance)....
