Unless you enjoy a "military" style of management: Do as I say, and don't ask any questions... my primary advice would be to continue working quietly at Vertigo, doing what you are told to do, while continuing to look for other opportunities. Otherwise, you will not fit in.

Even though you will be "asked nicely", understand that it is truly a direct order. And while you feel that you have freedom to offer alternative solutions, or input: You'll soon learn it is a BIG mistake to do so.

This organization is rampant with nepotism and cronyism. It is almost incestuous. This small company boasts 2 sets of (high ranking) twins and the two owners are spouses. Word spreads quickly, and saying the wrong thing to the wrong person is not adviseable.

Be on time to work: 9:30 really means be at your desk and working for at least 10 minutes by 9:30. No excuses!

You should enjoy playing video games, or basketball, because your colleagues will judge you more for what level your WoW character has achieved, than your ability to write code.

It was a very awkward experience, and I would compare working at Vertigo to living in a FLDS (Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) community....
