Experiences at les schwab tires (main office)

As with many jobs it is easier the get a job at Les Schwab if you know someone who works there. At Les Schwab they really like you to be a hard worker and somewhat competitive. I have worked in the stores, distribution center and the main office. The stores are always busy, but especially during the late Fall when snow tires (Snow Rush) get put on and in the Spring when the snow tires come off (Spring Rush). You will work extremely hard during the rushes and it is a right of passage to work these rushes before being put on full-time. In the main office the jobs are typical white collar jobs. The atmosphere in the main office isn't as competitive as the stores or distribution. The astmosphere is one that is professional and one that is always striving for improvement. In distribution where tires and parts are received from suppliers and shipped to the stores the atmosphere is fast paced to say the least and competitive. As an employee you are expected to produce and your production is measured and compared against all other employees doing the same job. If you have a competitive nature you will like it. The work can be Very physically demanding, especially when handling tires by hand; often handling 1000-2000 tires each day, per person. There are also 3 other job areas that I haven't worked at Schwab's:1) LS equipment, which supplies stores with tire changing equipment, truck beds, etc; 2) production, which is mainly involved in recapping tires; and 3) truck shop, which takes care of the Les Schwab truck fleet. I tell you this as I have no real insight to those jobs....

At the Les Schwab tire center in Anacortes they have the main lobby where tires and other services can be explained to customers along with purchasing what the customer asks for. Next to the lobby is the three main garages where all tire services are done, it is an indoor/outdoor set up so that the employees can greet customers as they drive up....

A standard blue pants and jacket with white collar shirt uniform that all employees wear, along with your name embroydered on the shirt.

The first step was going in to see if they were looking for new employees, the manager had me fill out their standard application. Once they decided to hire me, I came in for an interview so they could assess whether I had the right experience with motor vehicles; that same day I got in uniform and showed them what I had to offer. The first two week after the interview was considered an audition to see if I fit in with the other employees....

I am able to work with people, and insure the safety of their vehicle; I have the opportunity to test drive new vehicles that are on the market when customers bring them in; and I love the fast paced environment.
