What advice would you give to a new employee at shepherd university?

The advice I would give a new member of the Student Body at Shepherd University, specifically, those whose focus will be in the Mass Communications Department is to get a leg up on learning the video production programs. Practicing the programs, as well as reading different theoretical scholars of communications will make the program more valuable. Also, if you are assigned a video project in a communication course, it is strongly suggested that you storyboard your work before shooting any footage/video. I also recommend that you consider early in the semester what your plans for the video project shall be (i.e., do NOT wait til the last minute to throw something together). It is essential that your work be of a professional quality, as that work will be the stepping stone into your business pursuits.

Also, if you do happen to focus in video production, get a Youtube account and upload any video projects you complete to your account so that you can show your work to friends/colleagues/future potential employers.

What are the most challenging aspects of your job at shepherd university?

The most challenging aspects of student coursework at Shepherd University have been working with group members who lack the drive or motivation to complete tasks on time or ahead of time. Individually, though, working through a prior inexperience with the technology used in the video production field was a relatively difficult aspect of my coursework. My interest in video production, however, led me to master multiple editing platforms (Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Soundtrack, GarageBand, and Poser 6). Also, I gained minor experience with programs such as After Effects, Motion, Photoshop CS2, iDVD, iMovies.... read more

How would you describe what you did at shepherd university?

I undertook the Department of Mass Communications as an Undergrad to further my knowledge regarding communication services, media platforms, and video production software. My focus as a student at Shepherd was in video production; therefore, I was responsible for completing various projects either alone or in a group environment. Communicating effectively, expressing opinions articulately, and sharing thoughts on digital media were my main concerns as a student.

I also was a teaching assistant for an English 102 and an English 204 class for multiple semesters at Shepherd. I aided students in their pursuit of better grammar and concise writing structure.
