Experiences at united states postal service

I was able to work under little or no supervision to get my job done in 8hrs or less. Took it upon myself to do more of what was required of me to get job done.

I cased up my route accordingly to be delivered on the street. I then pulled down mail and loaded a 1/2 ton truck for delivery. I dealt with the public on a daily basis in delivering the mail. I also kept change of addresses up to date on my route in office and forwarded mail accordingly.

No secret, I just took the postal exam and then got hired. I worked hard and showed my supervisor that I can do the job and required no supervision.

There is no secret. Just like most jobs you apply when there are openings. However, you do have to test for the positions. As for the position I am doing at this time, I started out with in office training and then had to take a test that would qualify me for the position. You must find an opening in this area within 2 years of the testing or you will have to retest. I have been looking for openings in this area and so far am only in the temporary position. Once you apply for a position and if pass the interview, they will then send you to training for 4 months. After passing this training you will be a certified supervisor....

Do not let anything become personal! It is a job.

The best things about this job was my co-workers,we are a tribe.Just becoming a part of your' residents lives;watching first days at school till college acceptance letters, you share in their' world ,become a part of lives.

There were two tough disputes.First,a case of sexual misconduct involving management,the postmaster got demoted after over a year in court.Second,a 17 year veteran of rural carring hitting a teen and being put on leave without pay without any tarnishes on record.The second lost job.

Management was the most challenging aspect with this job. As a union representative,personality disagreements were at an all time high and my job was to make sure the job got finished ,regardless.Management and new management were always a challenge.

I sorted and distributed mail on a rural route in my own car.

Patience, nothing with the government happens too quickly. Availability !
