How would you describe what you did at valparaiso university?

I was most recently a Secretary, working in a very fast-paced atmosphere. I found the job to be challenging and enjoyable. I enjoyed working with the students and learning more about their cultures. It was rewarding to process their applications and paperwork and meet them when they arrived on campus each semester. It was interesting to watch them mature into adults over the course of a four year college career. I have made many new friends as a result of my experience.

I was not only the Secretary, but also acted as the Office Manager, managing daily activities and problems that may arise -- from scheduling appointments and answering student questions, to compiling data and creating various reports and meeting deadlines. Every day was different, so the job was never boring.

My position in the Admission Office was very different than my most recent position. Most of the job was data entry and creating new folders, but it was very interesting to learn about the students who were applying to study at Valparaiso. Valpo had students apply from almost all 50 states, as well as international students from over 45 different countries.

How would you describe what you did at valparaiso university?

I am presently a premedical biology major with a minor in chemistry. As of today (6/11/07), I have been through four semesters of study as a full-time student. In that time, I have taken courses in general biology (2 semesters), general chemistry(2 semesters), organic chemistry I and II, genetics, and a class on macroevolution. During the fall semester of 2007, I will be taking courses in biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, physics, cell biology, and a senior seminar involving immunology. Valparaiso University is a liberal arts college; so, I have a diverse backround in my studies. I am two courses short of fulfilling all of my general education requirements. I also worked for a year as a research laboratory assistant involved in chemical synthesis. Outside of my studies, I joined and became involved with my fraternity. I have held several leadership positions and taken on several responsibilities. Outside of my studies, I also became active in the music program at Valparaiso University. I was an assistant principle of the second violin section in the fall of 2005. I sang in the Valparaiso University Chorale as a Baritone through the 2006-2007 school year. During which the Chorale went on a concert tour in Germany.... read more
