Kevin, What are the most challenging aspects of your job at Dell Computers?

I found belaying the fears of customers with little or no computer knowledge. More often then not those customers were more worried about minor inconvinces that the press all to often would sensationalize as filler on the nightly news. My best example of this was the local news in Knoxville reporting on the old school (and I mean old school as in late 1980's) Phone freaking hack of back tracing a modem phone line. This report aired in 2007 and honestly was out of date in 1997. we had severals novice customers who ask about there safety from this.

As a day to day responsibility I would assist customers in ascertaining there computer or electronic needs. once we (myself and the customer) were settled on the appropriate technological needs, I would assist the customer in purchasing appropriate technology.
Convincing the Spherion representative handling the account (Dell is temp to hire through Sperion) to provide you the tests documentation (A herculean feat that weeds out more the 70% of applicants ). Once that is done simply prove you are a good customer care person and that you have a good working knowledge of cutting edge technology, in both computers and electronics.

Jacqueline, What's the toughest problem you've had to solve at Dell Computers?

Dell announced restructuring intent during Q1. There were job cuts planned across several lines of business at various levels. The cuts needed to be made while minimizing negative impact to productivity and maintaining morale amongst employees while avoiding a mass exodus due to fears of job losses. After analyzing the headcount data at our location, it was discovered that due to positive attrition activities that had taken place over previous months, it was unneccesary to further reduce headcount at the associate levels. I set up a series of information sessions for each of my client groups to control misinformation coming from the rumor mill. I also developed career and developmental roadmaps which assisted employees in obtaining other opportunities within the business or help prepare them for external transition. A mass exodus was averted, morale remained high, and the facility was well on it's way to becoming a learning organization.
