The toughest problem I had to solve was dealing with the Hotel being overbooked with reservations. We would do what is called a "walk" which involves good news and bad news for the guests checking in late last minute at the end of the night. The good news was they get their stay comped by the Doubletree but the bad news is that they have to be transported to another nearby Hotel Resort. The other toughest problem I remember off the top of my head was the one night I was left alone up front Check In Desk. There was a large group of people checking in when all of a sudden the Printer Paper had run out. I was totally unfamiliar with the machine - and I couldn't just start handing out room keys not knowing who would be where. It worked out though.

We had a brother and sister in our class who came from a home wherein both parents were legally mentally retarded. The children were filthy and very hungry. They had not been taught even the most basic hygeine, nor had they been taught to eat with utensils. I had to bathe them when they arrived and then take them to the cafeteria. There was quite a bit of "red-tape" to manuver through to get these children the help that they needed at home.

Well we had just signed a contract with Hawaii and we had to be trained how to learn a little Hawaiian language.
I had a tough time with that because I don't know Hawaiian. They wanted us to answer our phones by saying Aloha how my I assist you. We always knew it was a Hawaiian caller cause our computer screen would flash Hawaii... Then at the end of each call we were suppose to say goodbye in Hawaiian and say Mahalo. I am glad that I got to experience that because now I know how to talk a little bit in Hawaiian. It will come in handy when I go there someday.

I was working alone on a weekend and I was the only phlebotomist on-site (besides the receptionist). I got a little busy. I had to draw the blood, centrifuge, log, pour off and seperate all the specimens for in house and send out to referral labs. Then just as we slowed down I got a call from the urgent care department and they needed a phlebotomist to find a vein on a patient that was in a great deal of pain. I was called to go over there and help. Its not my department and I did not have to go over there. However being the person I am, I rushed over there quickly and assisted the LVN's and Nurses who could not find a vein on a women. I found one with in 5 minutes of me being there. I felt that I solved thier problem and went back to my department to finish up with sorting all of my specimens. I felt very good that I was capable of solving the issue in the urgent care department. I also managed to sort out and solve what needed to be done prior to leaving my shift at 9:00 pm.
