Carson, What profession other than yours would you like to try?

I have a variety of professions which I would like to try. I have always been interested in event planning and coordinating. I had a chance to try my hand at this when I worked as a manager at Basilio's Italian Cafe in Pullman, WA while attending Washington State. I was also a hospitality business management major and learned a great deal about event planning. I like to organize things and pay attention to detail. Currently I am working in marketing, but hope to someday be moved to the events department in my company.

Carson, Who was your most influential mentor and what did they teach you?

As I was growing up, I had many influences in my life. Probably the most influencial mentor I had was my basketball coach in 6-8th grade for St. Luke Elementary, Dave Augustavo. He helped me learn the importance of team work and always pushed my to work hard. He also recognized my leadership abilities early and cultivated them by adding additional responsibilities for me to do on the team. Later, I continued to play basketball for Bishop Blanchet High School and had the chance to play in the state championships twice. During this time, Dave asked me to return to my grade school and coach the 7 and 8 grade girls' basketball team. It gave me a chance to help girls who were once in my position learn the importance of working together for a common goal and gave me a chance to push them to work hard individually. The first year our team did well, but the second year, the girls came toether as a strong team and used the skills that they had learned in the previous year to win the championship. I couldn't have been more proud than to be with them that day and to have been given an opportunity to not only learn more about myself but to help others learn useful skills they can use in daily life too. I am proud to say most my girls went on to play in high school and Dave and I still keep in contact.

Carson, What do you do for fun?

I like to do outdoor things. I am your typical pacific northwest girl. I enjoy hiking on the weekends and am looking forward to the winter when I can try to improve my snowboarding and skiing skills. Unfortunately I have bad knees, so I am taking a little break right now while trying to recouperate.

Carson, Who are your role models?

I have very strong relationship with my family. Therefore, I have always looked up to my sisters. My sister Courtney displays a strong work ethic and compassion for others. My sister Eryn has an amazing life and many friends around the world. She is a very good networker and great at staying in touch with people. My sister Shannon has an amazing relationship with her husband and children in California and has the best eye when it comes to details and events. Finally, my parents raised me with a strong drive and work ethic that I apply to my life.

Carson, What was your first job?

My first job was at a little pizza and hamburger place in Shoreline, WA called Suni's. I waited tables and did a few other activities. I started at age 16 and have had a job almost continuously since then. For the first five years of my working career, my jobs mainly revolved around restaurants and customer service. Now I am working for Jobster as a lead marketing specialist. I enjoy the change, but miss the daily face to face contact with customers.

I have always wanted to be an event planner. I was a hospitality major at Washington State University and was able to try my hand at it while working as a manager at a local restaurant there. I enjoyed watching as the events fell into place and only wish that I had been able to play a larger role in the overall organization of outside events.
