Jeffrey, What did you learn along the way at cenveo?

What I learned along the way at Cenveo was Website development itself. At Cenveo I started as a data-entry temp managing documentation about Y2K compliance which companies would send each other as the millennium approached. One day I mentioned that I knew a little HTML. On June 15, 1999, I was hired permanently as a Website developer, wherein all that I now know about Active Server Pages (from "classic" ASP to ASP.NET) I learned entirely on the job. My position became permanent for eight years until Cenveo eliminated the position on June 15, 2007.

For eight years I developed database-driven, interactive Internet and Intranet sites, utilizing Visual InterDev (8 years) and Visual Studio.NET (2 years).

Jeffrey, What's your ideal work environment?

I prefer a collaborative environment with some autonomy. I like an atmosphere where I can help people wherever I think can and where people will help me as needed -- a cooperative atmosphere with no politics or "attitude" whatsoever, where I never have to apologize for doing my job.

Jeffrey, Myspace or Facebook (or neither)?

Such sites strike me as becoming less about "social networking" and more about celebrity and corporate self-promotion. They are fun when you want to find out about other people, but I often found such attention unrequited there. Frankly I need more convincing that such sites will help my career in any significantly positive way.

Regardless, in March of 2008 I decided to give Facebook a chance. So far I am still learning what to say and do there. I may need help with its privacy settings.

Meanwhile I have been lured to other professional networking sites such as LinkedIn.

Jeffrey, If you won $50 million dollars tomorrow, what would you do first?

After paying my debts, finding a permanent home of my own and resolving a few family matters, I would like to see where the money that I do not need would help the most people. At this point I feel that I ought to save myself first so that I could be in any position at all to help others.

I had always hoped to become a writer -- a newspaper columnist like Mike Royko, a novelist like Kurt Vonnegut, a screenwriter like Preston Sturges, a film critic like Roger Ebert.

Jeffrey, What's your ideal role within an organization?

I would prefer a role in the background, as I seldom felt comfortable about being the "face" or the "voice" of an organization. On the other hand, were it my own organization I might feel differently.

Jeffrey, What kind of job are you looking for?

My preference is a role that is in keeping with the fields that I have studied (writing, film, related subjects). Sadly thus far I have never been able to attract such work and therefore I have found difficulty in keeping up with such fields.

Nevertheless I believe that my skills as a Website developer are adaptable to many industries.

I prefer work that allows me to utilize and develop my creative and critical thinking skills.

I am also looking for a salary that is at least comparable (if not competitive) with the salary I had at my previous situation.

Jeffrey, What are your hobbies?

Movies (classics especially -- a consequence of my brief period as a film critic for my college paper); my favorite film is Local Hero.

Music (a folk-rocker at heart)

Baseball (following the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs, with an occasional peek at the St. Louis Cardinals)

Jeffrey, If you could choose, what city would you most like to live/work in? Why?

Chicago is my home and thus always my first choice. Although I must remain open to relocating if necessary, it must be worth my while to leave the only home that I ever knew. St. Louis is a possibility, for I went to college there.
