Having a rather intense meeting interrupted by one of our developers running in screamnig "Da*n Mongolians - they tore down my sh*tty code!" - It's a South Park reference (we blame those Mongolians for everything from not enough coke in the fridge to our own screw ups) - You'd have to have been there, I guess.

That changes aren't permanent. But change itself is.

Being a startup kind of guy, if you get laid off too often, you begin to question your own worth. The main thing that I learned is not to pin my self-worth to any job. It's intrinsic.

Probably as a walking talking contradiction. I can be both laser-focused and blue-sky general at the same time. I can be relaxed and intense at the same time. I believe (well, 'hope' might be a better word) that they would say I am a good boss and a good developer/designer. Why I don't I just get you in touch with them? It would be easier.
This goes back over two decades, but I'd have to say Chief Petty Office Albert Craycroft Shircliffe. He was the manager of the surgical research unit at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, and I was hired as a 'Data Coordinator". Chief (he insisted everyone call him Chief) didn't know squat about surgical procedures, programming, or computers - yet he knew an amazing amount about people. And that knowledge, along with his absolute honesty and integrity, made him a pleasure to work for. He taught me (and many others) how important understanding people and standing up for them was to any management role - even when managing dorky, cocky, developers like I was back then. It is a lesson I have never forgotten.
