Maggie, What are the three best things about working at ernst & young?

The three best things about working at Ernst & Young were #1...the people. The people I worked with were very professional and yet very human. They not only did a job but believed that the environment should be as stress free as possible. The people I worked with became more than my peers; they became mentors and friends. I suppose that #2 best thing about working at Ernst & Young would be the pay and benefit package because both were generous and much needed. The #3 "best thing" about working at Ernst & Young, would have to be the feeling of pride that came with being a part of a group that had high demands and expectations and encouraged everyone to do their best.

The toughest problem I had to solve while working at Ernst & Young actually had nothing to do with my place of employment. While working there I had a very young family and leaving them on a daily basis was something I had a very hard time dealing with. Thankfully, the office I worked in understood and, as always, were very supportive.

I was hired as a secretary for both a manager and a senior manager. I was responsible for typing, filing, answering of phone calls, faxes and any other things needed. After a maternity leave I came back to the same department and filled a job vacated by another employee in the book-keeping department. In this department I audited the moving of household goods bills for employee relocations, I assisted with the tax forms at the end of the year and any other duties requested by the book-keeper.

I believe the "secret" to getting hired at Ernst & Young was no secret at all. I believe they look for professional people who truly care about people. I respected the fact that they were able to look past the fact that what I may have lacked in education (college) I more than made up for with enthusiasm and a desire to perform to the very best of my abilities. I worked with a group of extremely well rounded individuals who valued the chance to work, to raise families and to meet personal and professonal goals...all under the umbrella of a company that offered support for all of these.
