Marvin, What path did you take to your current career?

I didn't really have a direct path. (That's for sure!) Or actually maybe I was preparing for it all of my life since my parents moved us to Texas from New York and started a business. I guess I've had the entrepreneurial bug ever since.

But here's my path:
-worked for parents in candy store and restaurants
-joined the Army
-turned my first house into an investment/rental property
-worked for Oracle Corporation
-bought more real estate
-started my own technology consulting company
-bought more real estate
-invested in TerraCycle
-started remodeling homes
-start real estate development very soon (2007)

Marvin, What advice do you have for someone who wants a job like yours?

Just do it! I will be hard and you might have to eat only bread and water every now and again, but its worth it.

But seriously, if you want to go out on your own, make sure you have some money saved up to keep you alive for a few months and network!

I'm not really looking for a job. I wouldn't mind helping others doing some consulting work in new technology or real estate.

Marvin, What was your most memorable summer job?

I didn't go to a traditional college since I was in the Army while going to school so the summer job that I would say is most memorable is when I was in high school and worked at Astroworld, the former Houston Six Flags amusement park. I remember I used to work the corn dog stand and once worked a drink stand where Evander Holyfield bought a lemonade from me! :)

Marvin, What's your dream job?

"Working" (I really wouldn't all it working if it were my dream job) from home and helping others while becoming financially free and helping others do so. Now that I think about it, I might be in my dream job now. (I just need to work more towards becoming financially free.)

Marvin, What advice do you have for someone looking for their first job out of college?

Start networking when you first start school or actually while in high school. The network is invaluable. And the sooner you learn that, the easier your life will be.

However, let's say that you are out of school and haven't really networked. It's not too late. All is not lost. You can still join your alumni association among others and start giving, giving, giving. A book that I think would help greatly is the classic "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie and the more modern spin that is similar to Carnegie's book: "Love is the Killer App" by Tim Sanders.

Marvin, What was the last really difficult interview question you were asked? How did you respond?

I really don't think there are too many extremely difficult interview questions that I have come across because I just say what comes natural. I don't have anything really rehearsed. Besides, I probably haven't been interviewed that much. I've got most of my work through my network. ;-)

Any city that I haven't lived in before. Why? Because my family and I enjoy new places and experiencing new things.
