We have an open floor office plan which means that everyone is out on the floor, including management & executives. Our Sr. Director of Biz Dev plays D.J. most days, and we all groove to and groan at the playlists. Lots of natural light and green walls make it fell less like an office and more like a home.

We do a phone screen, a technical screen, a round of in-person interviews with the hiring manager and team, and then a round of interviews with people outside of the work group (including our CEO). It takes about a week, sometimes longer depending on schedules, but we want our candidates to know everything about us!

Katherine, What advice do you have for someone who wants a job like yours?

If you want to work at Wetpaint, leave me a note. We're hiring!

If you want to be a recruiter, you have to talk to successful people about what they wanted and how they got it. That will give you an idea about where people are in different points in their careers. Networking in a meaningful way is very important, as is basic HR knowledge. Learn about your company and what people do there, so that you can talk about it without sounding like a moron.

As a candidate, I have yet to have a great interview experience. As an interviewer, I have to say that I rarely meet a candidate who is prepared, who has thought about their career in real terms and is insightful. When I do - those are great interviews.
