What was your first job?

I grew up on a farm, so I guess you could consider that my first "job" - it lead to others that paid cash: picking up hay for neighbors & field crew at an apple orchard.
Once I reached the legal age to have a non-farm job (16), I immediately jumped to office work within the planning and
production office of a local manufacturer. good stuff, i was running excel spreadsheets managing skus and production utilization and projections.... read more

What advice do you have for someone who wants a job like yours?

Learn about the technology even if you will never have to actually use it. It is integrated into virtually all aspects of communications and marketing.
Play Play Play and Read Read Read
Explore everything and anything you can find online. Read every blog you can, consume newspapers (NYTimes &
WSJ are good starting points) like you do coffee (or tea if you're a pom) and find people like you and in the space to talk to.
Then, design, explore, program, write and generally put any idea you have down in digital or physical format. it will all add up.

What's your dream job?

If I knew the answer to that, you think I'd be here?? okay, i probably still would be...
I'd likely own the business (or part of it), so I wouldn't consider it so much a job as a life. A couple of the possibilities: brewing (beer, sake, whiskey (that involves distilling as well)), farming &
marketing the product (a "value-add" such as wine or meat), running a communications agency (bleeding edge, technologically based, creatively driven). creating awesome fun content that others can expand upon.
in the end, creating things that make people happy or make them think or both.

What's your daily commute like at DDB?

HA! I walk, a whopping 6 blocks. It rocks... except when it is raining sideways... then it sucks no matter what you do.

How much coffee do you drink daily at DDB?

From 2 - 10 Shots of espresso, in a wide variety of beverages. Most of this depends upon how busy things are, and how may times a day my head needs a little space... getting out to grab a coffee provides a moment to chat, and a chance to just space out for a second. of course, on the busiest days, I sometimes fail to make it out at all... but don't necessarily miss it either.... read more
