How long did it take for you to land your job at Federal Bureau of Prisons?

Be prepared for a long hiring process. It took about 6 months from when I first applied to the job and was actually hired. The Bureau since it is part of the Department of Justice and that you will be working closely with known felons conducts a very thourough background check and this can and will take many months to complete. Also once you get hired be prepared for about 3 weeks of class room training and about another 4-6 weeks of On-the-job training. At which time you can expect to go the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA for an additional 3 weeks of Correctional Training. Just remember that no matter what position you apply for everyone is a Correctional Worker first!... read more

What's the secret to getting hired at Federal Bureau of Prisons?

USAJOBS.gov - It doesn't necessarily matter who you know as all job applicants get forwarded to the Bureau's Consolidated Employee Services Center in Grand Prairie, TX. Make sure that you application is as complete as possible and your KSI's (Key Skill Inventory) is as accurate as you can be. If you want to get hired into the BOP it also doesn't hurt to call the local HR manager and get to know them and exactly what the position is looking for... Good luck.... read more

After high school, I joined the Marine Corps to find direction in my life and to visit places outside of my previous world. During my tenure at Sprint I really enjoyed working in special projects in the IT field. This lead me to pursue a degree in Project Management. Which brings me to my current job with Worldlink where I am managing technology projects and designing solutions for our customers.... read more

What's one of the projects you worked on at Worldlink Integration?

My favorite project while working at Worldlink is definitely the Federated (Macy's) account. We are designing and deploying wireless networks so that the truck drivers (yard jockeys) have ambiguous wireless coverage over their route into / out of the distribution centers.

What's your workspace like at Worldlink Integration?

I have a pretty standard 5x5 cubicle. However, I'm fortunate enough to have a window and view of the freeway and mountains. It's better than the people downstairs who only get to look at walls.
