How would you describe your dream job in 10 words or less?

Long term stability with good pay and benefits in order to provide for my family effectively. I have seen and done all I ever dreamed to do, now my focus is financial freedom and sharing my knowledge and skills with those still "climbing the ladder" in the automotive field. I literally hit the ceiling in this business last year and it would have been nice to stay there, however, NASCAR is a temperamental industry and not necessarily the most reliable venue for a long-term career, as demonstrated with the last 2 teams I was with. That being said, NASCAR and racing will always be my first true love.... read more

If you won $50 million dollars tomorrow, what would you do first?

I would be very thankful for such a blessing bestowed on me. In the course of a week, I'd make the following things happen: BUY 2 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP CARS and assemble a team/ advance them salaries and relocate them as necessary. Buy a house/shop in Mooresville, NC. Pay off any and all debt, give at least ten percent to church and charity, build a dream house in Missouri for my family, complete my retirement investments, top off my children's college funds (yep-- five of em), spoil my wife, fully fund and participate in a mission organization with my church. Fully fund my parents and my wife's parents' retirements, and help my extended family financially to a certain extent.... read more

What was your most memorable summer job?

I have worked every day of my life since the young age of 13. My most memorable would be mucking out goat stalls. Memorable and most hated job, that is.

What advice do you have for someone looking for their first job out of college?

Your homework days are far from over! Research the heck out of who is hiring before the interview so that they can see you are serious about them, have taken the time to get to know them, and are ready to be a part of their "team."

What was the last really difficult interview question you were asked? How did you respond?

The team owner asked me several questions that were technical in nature. The answers were not difficult for me, but the number of questions reminded me of taking a standardized test! The interviewer was pleased and offered me a position on the team, but admitted low funds temporarily. I may have taken the job if it had been in a better location (job was in Minnisota) or paid more (was not enough to justify an out-of-state move).... read more

If you could choose, what city would you most like to live/work in? Why?

It would have been Mooresville, NC if funding had been in place for my most recent job offer (in NEXTEL CUP, NASCAR -- download resume for details). Otherwise, I am happy to be back in my childhood home- Bourbon Missouri where I can serve the community with my skills and give my children a place to grow roots. I will ALWAYS be involved in racing, though-- so call me if you need another guy for your team. I might just come along for the ride.... read more

What advice do you have for someone who wants a job like yours?

Keep working hard and never give up. Educate yourself, practice, communicate clearly, be confident, be yourself, be HONEST. Make it clear that you put the team first, that you want success for all. Your skills are very important. If you don't have skill, don't pursue this industry until you get training and a mentor. Get a contract to protect yourself from layoffs.... read more
