Desktop Support/Communications Security Officer (COMSEC) July2006 - Jun2007 Provide computer and network support, for the (Forward Operating Location) services in support of the USSOUTHCOM (US Air force) Aerial Counter Drug Surveillance mission here at Willemstad Hato, Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot desktop computers, hardware and software packages. Interacts with end-users to identify current computing procedures and desktop-based LAN systems software operations and makes selection recommendations accordingly. Support, monitor, test, and troubleshoot hardware and software problems pertaining to LAN. Recommend and schedule repairs. Provide end users support for all LAN- based applications. Installs and configures workstations. As the COMSEC Responsible Officer, my responsibilities were for the overall management of COMSEC accounts within the Forward Operating Location (FOL) on the island of Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. Responsible for the receipt, custody, issue, safeguarding, accounting and destruction of COMSEC material. Responsible for ensuring all COMSEC items under the accounts are accounted for and detail inventory maintained. Inventories would be conducted to ensure all materials are accounted for IAW applicable directives. Also, maintain current crypto materials for systems to ensure operational order, maintain and turn in COMSEC materials/equipment as needed for the facility. Conduct COMSEC training as required. Provided installation and maintenance service for COMSEC and communication equipment, installs, relocates, remove, modify and repaired voice and data equipment. Knowledge of COMSEC equipment to include STUs, STE's (1500), KOV 14s (1500), KIV 7, KG-75, KG-175, KG-250 cryptographic devices . Conduct security self-audits, self-inspections and surveys of cleared facility procedures, classified workspaces, physical spaces and cleared/in-clearance processed employees to ensure compliance with security programs and government regulations; identifies and reports discrepancies and recommends corrective action through the Manager of Security and Surety. Advised personnel on all application and utilization aspects of end-user information technology support. Keeping abreast of change proposals and assesses impact on business center operations.
