Other than babysitting, my first job was outbound telemarketing for a cable TV company. I'd sit in a small windowless room, using a touchtone phone to hand-dial each number. When someone answered I'd say "TCI Cable and the Disney Channel have joined together to make a special offer!" Most people would hang up but occasionally someone would listen, and then turn me down. Being sent home for not meeting my hourly quota was actually a relief because the place smelled of smoke and none of my co-workers were what you'd call 'witty.' I think this job was what first inspired me to do something better with my life and become a Graphic Designer....
