I conducted creative writing seminars for a class of Jordanian 12th graders. Aside from being a valuable exercise in lesson planning and having a backup plan (as these kids were not altogether motivated), it was my first time in a classroom setting with young people. Such an experience makes you thicker-skinned and able to deal with anything anyone may throw at you!...

I tutored adult refugees and immigrants in Utica, New York, in the English language. This was a highly valuable experience, as it gave me deeper insight into English as well as allowing me to meet some truly inspiring people.

For four years, I worked part-time for my father's small but successful company, Next Step Communications, Inc., a full-service marketing firm for companies in the plastics industry. I learned the ins and outs of marketing and public relations and assisted with most projects handled by the company, including newsletters, presentations, feature stories, press releases, and direct mail campaigns. Though I handled some of these jobs on my own, many were also completed through highly successful team collaboration....

How would you describe your time at University of Jordan?
I studied Arabic intensively for 9 months on a Fulbright grant to Amman, Jordan. This experience not only improved my language skills, but also my ability to deal with change and the inherent disadvantages of being a foreigner. It also broadened my mind in the way that living in a culture so different from your tends to do....

I studied abroad at St. Catherine's College during my junior year. The unique tutorial system at Oxford taught me how to work independently and organize my time effectively. It also gave me the somewhat terrifying chance to speak one on one weekly with top scholars in the fields of English and history, thus honing my communication skills as well as my knowledge of these subjects....
