How would you describe your time at Bear River Ranch?
I spent two summers working as an Animal Specialist for Bear River Ranch in Rolla, Missouri. As an Animal Specialist I held simultaneous positions as a camp councelor, animal caretaker, science instructor, and mentor. I was responsible for working with a team of about seven other staff members to care for over 250 animals at the ranch, ranging from small exotic pets to large barnyard mammals. I taught daily one to two hour courses related to animals, biology and the natural science to students from ages seven to seventeen. I created my own curriculum for most of the courses, which involved both interactive activities and lectures where I would present various animals (handling them all myself) to the campers. My second summer I returned to Bear River Ranch and was offered the position of Head Animal Specialist for the following summer. I declined the position due to family obligations in the Northwest that following summer, but spent the remainder of my work experience there serving also in the leadership roles of cabin leader, senior staff member, and mentor to highschoolers seeking the animal specialist position. Each summer, the camp also spent about two to three weeks serving as a recreational facility to individuals with special needs. For this portion of the camp, I went from being a camp councelor to being a 24 care-giver for individual campers who required extreme assistance. Throughout this time I continued to help perform morning and evening rounds to care for all of the camps animals and also participated in presenting the animals to individuals with special needs....

How would you describe your time at Evergreen Staffing?
Worked part time as barrista in various coffee shops of the multi care hospital system in Tacoma, WA. I mainly worked during the summer, but also worked a few holidays and weeks of short staffing throughout the year. Skills involved including making and serving various popular non-alchoholic drinks such as lattes, mochas, milkshakes, cappacinos, and frape' drinks. I also served as a cashier, food handler, delivery person, order taker, and cash manager. I gained experience in dealing with customers in a hectic environment, working a register, counting out tills, scheduling work weeks, stocking and ordering supplies for the shops, and various cleaning tasks. Although I was one of many temps, I was first on the list to be called in for any openings. I got along really well with the staff members and was offered full time employment by the supervisor on multiple occasions, I declined due to a very heavy academic schedule at my college during the school year. In this job I was able to make friends and learn valuable skills from the other barristas which have served me in customer service and latte making many times....

How would you describe your time at Pacific Lutheran University?
My senior year of college I worked as an RA (resident assistant) in Tingelstad hall, home to about 400 students. I was responsible for a wing of 22 female students, and for working with a staff of 16 to keep the hall safe, updated, and growing together as a community. I attended weekly staff meetings to assist in management and leadership of the residence hall. My job also included regular nights and weekends throughout the year where I would be on call for any emergencies within the hall, as well as performing walk-throughs of the building, and issuing disciplinary action for any offenses commited on campus. As an RA I lived in the building and was available to the students on my wing 24 hours a day, assisting in any medical emergencies, academic problems, and peer counceling. I was also responsible for creating opportunities for recreation, learning, and experiencing cultural diversity on my wing. By the end of the year I had succeeded in creating a close-knit community on my wing and forming excellent work relationships and friendships with all the members of my staff....

How would you describe your time at Bellarmine Prepatory Highsc...?
I graduated with Honors from Bellarmine in 2003. I excelled in science and English. I entered and won both of the bi-yearly science fairs that took place while I attended high school. Othere awards recieved included National Merit Scholar finalist, science student of the year (2003), a varsity letter in cross country, an inspirational teammate award for girl's cross country, two varsity letters for Wind Ensemble from the music department. The awards were nice, but I really valued being able to participate in a wide range of subjects, from classic philosophy to music to biology. I participated all four years in an extra curricular science program: Marine Chemistry, through which I received my first research into water quality analysis, my SCUBA certification, and eventually a research project involving the phyttoremediation of groundwater which earned grand prize at the south puget sound science fair, a fourth place ribbon at the Intel International Science Fair in 2003, as well as a first place prize and publication of my research by the National Groundwater Association. While at Bellarmine I also had the opportunity to serve in several fun leadership opportunities, such as two years being a Natural Helper and orientation guide to incoming freshman, as well as one year as Jr, and the following year as Senior, Drum Major for the Bellarmine Marching Band....
