How would you describe your time at Showtime Networks?

Position was VP of product development for a Showtime-funded startup that operates autonomously.

Worked closely with CTO, lead engineer, outsourced design team, and internal creative team to conceptualize and design a fully featured online magazine and web community. Site concept and content
were closely affiliated with a popular Showtime television show and included streaming video, user-generated content, magazine content, and editorial content. Architected real-time chat system for use on site with CTO.

Developed initial software framework for site implementation using LAMP (Python) and django web framework, then served as liaison between engineering and graphic design teams (internal and outsourced) to implement features. Also worked to support existing (old) site written in PHP.

Identified significant cost reduction opportunities in vendor relationships. Implemented company-wide policies such as coding standards and corporate communications standards.

Performed datacenter performance and security audits with CTO using open source technologies and web cluster optimization strategies.

Was involved in developing an online marketing plan insofar as traffic analysis, growth management, system performance metrics, etc.

My repsonsibilities included search cluster design and specification, development of Python code for information processing, database connectivity/design, and other large-scale data processing tasks.

As a lead engineer I was responsible for development schedules, performance tuning and metrics, as well requirements gathering and timeline.

The company was purchased by Microsoft in 2007.

Responsibilities included design and development of database-driven applications (Oracle 8i on Solaris and MySQL on Linux) for report generation and statistical analysis using Perl and Tcl/Tk (using SQL libraries). Was responsible for the design and implementation of intermediate schemas for the normalization and ingestion of varied datasources into datacenter. Wrote cross-platform installer programs for Windows and UNIX software distributed to clients. Also wrote web applications using Perl with Apache and embedded Tcl with AOLServer.

Configured and deployed Sun Microsystems Ultra and Ultra Enterprise servers with Solaris 2.6 & 7, Oracle 8i, and custom in-house applications into a production environment. Oversaw data ingestion and normalization process using Oracle tools such as SQL Loader and in-house custom utilities.

Installed and configured hardware (SCSI subsystems, networking subsystems, memory, CPU, etc.) in Sun Microsystems Ultra Enterprise servers, Linux (Intel) servers, BSDi (Intel) servers, and Windows NT (Intel) servers. Oracle 8i database administration in a limited development context. Configured and maintained standard network services (httpd/www, ftp, nfs, dns (bind/named), sendmail, dhcpd, ldap/auth, etc) across corporate network and ensured reliability and availability.

Company was purchased by DataQuick of San Diego.
